Cambridge International AS and A Level The Cambridge International AS Level is a one year program of study, and the Cambridge International A Level is a two year program of study. The AS Level can be taken on its own or as a part of a progression to A Level in year two. Students generally choose to study three (3) or four (4) AS/A Levels combinations of subjects. The fourth subject is generally taken as an extra course. Examinations may be taken in May/June or October/November. Some examinations are only offered in one of those sittings. Most of the subjects offered require prior knowledge at O Level or CXC. Each subject expects an average of six (6) hours tuition per week. An additional six (6) hours a week is expected in independent study for each subject. Cambridge International A Levels are university requirements on par with CAPE and the Associate Degree Programs. They are an easily achievable alternative for students who will flourish in small tuition groups, require structure, and are interested in subject blends (e.g. Physical Science or Marine Science). Timetabling allows for flexibility. Tutors help students develop a deep understanding of subject matter and maintain close contact with them, enabling them to work independently while maintaining motivation. Close attention is paid to problem solving and critical thinking skills, which are so essential for university success. Most subjects require students to have prior knowledge at CXC CSEC/ O' LEVEL.
