TRANSFERRING TO LOCKERBIE COLLEGE
COMMON REASONS WHY...
At Lockerbie College we try to make the transfer process as easy as possible. If you are interested in transferring from another local private or public school, Lockerbie College is the only school offering non-traditional education in an island of traditional learning.

If you've recently arrived on the island or are planning on moving to Barbados with your family, this is what a past parent had to say:

"We had a magnificent year here in Barbados. The most critical component to the success of our year abroad was your school. There is so much that a parent needs to think about when relocating a family for a year to another country; the school situation for one’s children is among the highest priorities. Without that piece of the puzzle in place, little else matters. "  (Jill Schneiderman, 2010)

TAKE SOME TIME TO EXPLORE WHAT LOCKERBIE OFFERS

Choosing a school for your child is an important step in setting him or her up for life. Before you transfer your child, here are some things to think about doing.

VISIT US AND THEN ARRANGE AN 'AUDIT DAY' FOR YOUR CHILD
Lockerbie College is very different so visiting us for a tour during school hours is a great idea. By actually coming to the College and experiencing some of our classes you can get a clear feel for our learning environment and whether it is right for your child.

Lockerbie College offers complimentary AUDIT DAYS so prospective students can experience how we teach. This also gives our tutors an opportunity to dynamically assess a student's levels of achievement, ability and proficiency. This forms the basis of accurate placement when creating each student's individualised timetable.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE

Each student is on a personal journey and is as unique to us, as he or she is to you.

Our students follow the Barbados National Curriculum but they do so in small classes where the learning is fully interactive and distinctly student-guided. We are unlike any other school because of our multi-faceted structure of academic learning and support classes which give each child the opportunity to access the curriculum in a meaningful way. Differentiated learning enables each student to  accelerate at his or her own pace.

Therefore our students are grouped based on proficiency and interest rather than age. Every schedule we create includes the core subjects of Mathematics and English (as determined by the Ministry of Education) as well as an open and extensive selection of other subjects from which to choose.

Depending on your child’s needs and abilities additional support, supplementary or foundation classes are added to ensure stimulation, challenge, experiential learning, personal growth and success.

There is the option of adding in assisted homework sessions.

WHY WE CUSTOMISE

Taking all of this into consideration, every student receives a completely customized timetable which we initially develop and then review every six weeks. We believe a curriculum plan must adequately and proactively respond to the student’s current level, academic potential, behavioral or scholastic limitations and eventual goals.

If you feel that your child’s needs are not being met at his or her current school, keep in mind that we accept transfer students throughout the academic year.

DISCUSS YOUR BEST HOPES WITH US

Our Application booklet is extremely detailed because we know that no one knows your child like you do! We need you to share this insight and inside information with us so that we create a pragmatic and meaningful plan. We realise the importance of sitting down with you and your child to figure out what you both really want to get out of a transfer to the school.

We would be delighted to discuss the details of our school when we meet in person. It’s best to call ahead and schedule your visit so we can spend some time with you. Call 1 (246) 434 3673 to start your transfer process today!
